Good travel planning makes the holiday oh so much more enjoyable.  It can be tedious at times to plan out an itinerary but it is so worth it.  I like to stay in new hotel properties if possible but at a reasonable price point.   Here are some of the travel sites that I frequently use:

TripAdvisor
I mainly use TripAdvisor to look at hotel reviews before making a booking.  They also offer reviews on restaurants and attractions in each county and is usually a starting point for planning my travel itinerary.

I find that their rates are very competitive & they have a price match guarantee which lets me make the booking with confidence.

Hotwire.com
If you like surprises, take a chance on Hotwire.com.  They do not reveal the name of the hotel but you can choose based on the number of stars tripadvisor rates is at as well as their own reviews.  I've booked in both London and Paris and they were both good hotels with great location :)  I couldn't have been happier.  Take that chance you may be pleasantly surprised.  I was.

Another thing about hotwire is that we have also booked rental cars through them and have got pretty good companies for very decent rates.
