Makila Kafe - Quai des Marques - Bordeaux

After visiting the Marche des Quai, we walked further down to Quai des Marques and checked out some menus.  Finally we settled on Makila Kafe - I think the deciding point was the Illy coffee for D.  We snacked on the mussels and fries for afternoon tea.  They were very tiny, very sweet and perfectly cooked.  The best mussels that we've ever had.  It's a lot of hard work to eat those tiny mussels but boy were they good!  They were soooo good that we came back again for more ....

Check out the view - it's a great place to chill, people watch and laze after some sightseeing.
Seafood Paella
Mussels with Chorizo Sauce
You can choose how you want the mussels done, they have about 5 or 6 ways.  The mussels were very very fresh and we really enjoyed them with the chorizo sauce.
Crepes with Chantilly Cream and Nutella
We finished off the meal with a good cup of coffee and some crepes.  It was very hearty and satisfying.

Marche des Quai - Bordeaux

Sundays in Bordeaux - relaxed and laid back.

We decided to head out to an outdoor market in Chatrons.  It was sunny when we left our hotel but the weather turned very fast and we were caught in a heavy downpour.  Luckily, within half an hour, the sun began to peak out from the clouds.  Despite the sudden downpour, people were still out and about enjoying the oysters and beer, roasted chicken and ham, organic cheeses, fresh seafood and produce as well as baked breads.

After wandering through the market, we decided to follow the herd and joined the long queues for the organic cheese and rotisseries so we got a baguette, some cheese, a chicken and some ham to snack on. Go for the little mini ham - it was soooo good!
Organic Cheeses
After the market, we walked a little  further down the Quay to Quai des Marques, a factory outlet and restaurant strip.  It's nothing like the factory outlets in the US but  it is a nice walk by the River Garonne.  Grab lunch or have a snack at the many restaurants and cafes and drink in the relaxed atmosphere.  They all have a good view of the River Garonne and the skyline of the historical city centre.  It's a bonus that it's open on Sundays as well.

Back at Last ....

Brownie is glad to be home after almost a month of travel and he's suffering from internet withdrawal.   He's had a fantastic trip, eating, sightseeing and hanging out with new friends.  Some photos first before more details in the following posts.  Guess where he's been ...

Whistler Farmers' Market

Whistler Farmer's Market

It was a gorgeous weekend in Whistler with highs of 30C.  We headed to the Whistler Farmer's market at the base of Blackcomb to get some Kettle corn.  The queue was the longest at the kettle corn and lemonade stand - the guy was literally popping corn non-stop to deal with the never-ending queue.

We tried a baked good from Pure Breads...

Then we sampled some reduced balsamic at Nona Pia and ended up buying the strawberry and fig flavour.

I saved the best for last - right at the end of the farmer's market was Pat's Pulled Pork -  we shared one sandwich then went back for another.  Resist the baked goods, pies and crepes and head to Pat's Pulled Pork.

Sweet Corn Soup

Sweet Corn Soup
It's corn season - walk into a supermarket and you'll see the piles and piles of corn. They are fresh and oh so tempting.  Just boiled or microwaved and they are delicious but in soup it's even better.
